DynaVap is a USA-based company that manufactures a range of beautifully crafted battery-free vaporizers that can be used both with dry herbal blends and concentrates.
Am I blown away by the vapour quality delivered by these tiny vapes? Yes, I am…and read on to find out why!
Today I’m reviewing the DynaVap “M” which is the entry level stainless steel version. As I’ve said, DynaVap Vaporizers are battery-free units just like the Vapman and the Lotus; to power one of these on-demand vapes, you can utilize a butane lighter, a regular lighter, a candle, or even a burning stick! In a nutshell, these tiny units are amazingly crafted, they pack a punch and they provide an amazing vaping experience.
DynaVap “M” Unboxing
The first thing you notice when you take the DynaVap “M” out of its protective case, is how small this little guy is…and how well it is constructed. Built in the USA using medical grade stainless steel, the “M” total 92mm in length and about the same circumference of a cigarette. Small and intriguing. The durability and robustness are quite evident and the “M” fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. I’m not worried that it may break if I drop it or if by mistake I drive over it with my car (yes, it has happened to me before).
Not much to be said about the packaging because all DynaVap vaporizers ship inside a plastic protective case but no other spares or accessories are provided with it. To get the DynaVap fired up, you will also have to invest a few extra bucks in a single or double flame torch lighter. One quick tip regarding the lighter: the double flame will heat up the Cap a lot faster but I prefer using the single flame because it give you more control over the temperature.
One of the things that makes the DynaVap such a great product is its unique mechanical temperature controlling mechanism known as “The Cap” that will produce a clicking sound when the right vaping temperature is reached.
To fill the herbal chamber located at the bottom of the unit, remove the Cap and load it with a medium to fine grind dry herb. The “M” takes very little dry herb, + 0,1g, which is substantially less than other portable vaporizers; pop back on the Cap and you are ready to apply heat.
For those who have never used a flame-powered vaporizer, you will find that there’s bit of a learning curve involved here: if you hold the flame too long, you can burn the herb and on the other hand if the heat is not enough, vapour produced will be tasty but thin…but hey, the Cap is here to make our life easier with its “click”!
For best results and flavourful hits, you want to heat up the Cap evenly; where along the Cap you apply your heat, is going to determine the temperature when you hear the click. Heating it too close to the tip will cause a premature click while heating lower down towards the base of the chamber may delay the click and bring your herb close to combustion point.
Another quick tip: when using a torch lighter, something else that needs to be considered is the length of the flame; the shorter the flame the more control you have over the temperature of the Cap.
Speaking of the Cap, this will click at a temperature ranging between 148°C and 171°C when the flame is applied near the tip…but when you heat up the opposite end of the Cap, the clicking temperature will be around 204°C or higher…which is way too high if you are after a tasty and cool draw.
There are a few videos online on how to correctly heat up the Cap but here’s how I do it…and I will try to explain this as best as possible: when using a single flame torch lighter (or jetflame) what you want to do is evenly heating up the Cap with a up and down motion whilst rotating the pen with the tip of the flame touching the Cap.
For the first heat up, it will take about 15 seconds before hearing the click. Don’t forget to block your ‘clutch’ which is the air hole close to the mouth piece. This ‘clutch’ gives you control over the cool air you inhale together with your vapour.
The DynaVap “M” produces amazing flavour; the first hit is all about flavour with very little to no visible vapour but with the 2nd and 3rd hit you will feel the soothing vapour passing through your lips. Again, the vapour’s thickness is directly proportional to the amount of heat applied, the quality of your dry material and to how you are utilizing the clutch. As with most vapes, your draw should be slow and controlled. On average you should get a total of 5-6 long draws out of a single load, which is not bad at all for such a small unit.
Did I say that this vape produces tasty and thick clouds?
Maintenance
Looking after your DynaVap “M” is very, very simple. It takes under a minute to dismantle it. To get rid of the build-up, clean it with some ISO or alcohol. I simply wipe out the inside of the bowl and vapour path with an alcohol swab and allow to dry. Cleaning once a week is recommended as the high vapour production can lead to clogging
and affect your flavour. When you remove the O-Rings, make sure you use a tiny bit of DynaWax to lubricate these high-temperature rings before reassembling the unit.
Conclusion
The little DynaVap should not go underestimated, it stands way ahead of the portable vaporizer crowd in terms of durability and efficiency and it’s great value for money….probably the best you can get. At only Rand 850 ($59), the “M” puts a huge smile on my face and definitely worth every cent. I couldn’t ask for more. It may be small but its superior design and functionality is obvious as the designers created it with big heart, producing enormous flavour and dense vapour that leaves you feeling super relaxed and content.
I’ve only used it for a couple of weeks but I’m positive the “M” –as well as the more expensive DynaVap titanium versions— won’t rust or burn away, in fact it will probably outlast you…or me J
